Here at Apps for Good, we believe that all young people should be empowered to take action on the things they care about most. Our courses, App for Social Action and Innovate for Climate Change, teach students the skills they need to create tech for good - and we give teachers all the tools they need to teach them.

Each year, over 550 schools teach an Apps for Good course, and it really is simple to get started. If you’ve not tried Apps for Good yet then here are 10 very good reasons why you should…

1. It’s completely free

Yep, that’s right. Thanks to our generous partners, our courses are 100% free to schools. All we ask is for your feedback on how the course has impacted your students.

2. You can teach the courses in just one half-term

We know that time can be limited, so our courses are designed to be delivered in just 7 sessions. You can choose to take longer, if you’d like to, but in just one half-term you could make a huge impact on your students' digital and innovation skills.

3. Aligned to curriculums

We’ve taken the guesswork out of meeting the computing curriculum requirements and have ensured that our latest courses align to the curriculums of England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales.

4. Teacher tested

We want to make sure our courses will work in the real world and have put them to the test. Computing teachers from across the UK trial and help iterate our content, which is produced by our own in-house teaching professionals.

5. Busy-teacher friendly

We know just how busy teachers are and so we have produced high quality, pre-prepared, editable and easy-to-deliver content. There’s no printing required either, just access the latest courses from our platform and away you go!

6. On-demand training to suit you

You’ll get access to our short training videos at a time to suit you. We’ll talk you through the course structure and the key resources, and you can revisit the training any time you like.

7. Engage with Industry Volunteers

We’re really excited to be able to offer Industry Engagement sessions as part of our Apps for Good courses. These are a great way for young people to develop their confidence and presentation skills, and get real-life feedback from someone already working in the digital economy. Students love them!

8. Skills Builder accredited

Our latest Apps for Good courses are accredited by Skills Builder and our content is designed to develop the essential skills needed for the workplace. We aim to improve young people’s communication, creative problem solving, self-management and interpersonal skills.

9. Take part in our annual Showcase

Each year we hold an online Showcase event to celebrate the amazing app ideas that your students have come up with as part of their Apps for Good course. We find students are really motivated by this opportunity to present their app beyond the classroom to Industry Volunteers. It can also be a great way to raise the profile of your school!

10. Our Youth Ideation Toolkit

We have drawn on industry for best practice to create a toolkit that supports student teams in developing their ideas in a fun and engaging way, using a range of creative and innovative approaches used by industry professionals.
