We are really excited to introduce you to Georgie who joined the Apps for Good team as our new Fundraising and Partnerships Manager earlier this month. We thought we'd give her the chance to introduce herself.

What’s your role at Apps for Good?

I’m the Fundraising and Partnerships Manager, so I’ll be supporting the Head of Fundraising and Partnerships, Matt, to look after our current partners, as well as develop new partnerships with corporates and grant giving organisations. Apps for Good’s partners are really integral to increasing our impact with schools, so this is a big job!

What were you doing before you started here?

Before I joined I was working in Business Development at a food waste start-up. The app, OLIO, I think is the perfect example of the kind of product which students could develop through Apps for Good - food waste is a massive problem for the environment and we urgently need more innovative solutions.

Previous to that I started out my career in the charity sector, taking part in a non-profit leadership development programme and working for a volunteer engagement charity. I’ve also mentored young people through the government’s National Citizen Service programme, which I loved.

I studied Philosophy along with Spanish at university, and I’m a big advocate for philosophy being introduced earlier into the school curriculum, so I was pleased to see elements of this being taught in our Machine Learning course.

What motivated you to join us?

When I was a mentor on the NCS Summer Programme I saw the transformative effect that programmes empowering young people to tackle problems they care about can have, both for the young people involved, and their communities. So I was instantly attracted to Apps for Good’s mission.

I was also really excited by the work Apps For Good carry out through their partnerships. For me, good partnerships are ones which seek to work in a strategic way to bring about the most impact, and Apps for Good do this really effectively with their industry partners.

Fortunately, being part of a small team meant I had the opportunity to meet most people before joining and speaking with everyone I could tell they had a great team culture and it would be a good fit!

What are you most looking forward to in your first few months?

We have some really fantastic corporate partners at Apps for Good who are very engaged with our programmes, so I’m looking forward to getting to know them and planning some exciting engagement activities.
