Empowering Students to Drive Positive Social Change

Sathish Sivasubramanian, Head of Computing and ICT at The St Marylebone CE School, has been involved with Apps for Good for many years, and in 2024 helped to re-integrate the programme across their computing department. That same year, The St Marylebone CE School was named our School of the Year, recognising of their commitment to the course. Their enthusiastic approach has gone beyond the classroom, with students joining Spotify career sessions and the school offering invaluable insights to help refine course content.

Before engaging with Apps for Good, many of Sathish's students found it difficult to connect computing skills with the real world. Many viewed coding and tech as academic or abstract, rather than tools for positive change. Opportunities to take ownership of their learning and use tech for social good were limited.

Apps for Good changed that. The programme ignited student interest by linking computing with real-world impact. Students took on meaningful projects, solving problems that mattered to them and their communities. They developed digital and coding skills, strengthened teamwork and problem-solving abilities, and learned to confidently pitch their ideas. Industry engagement, including detailed feedback and experiences like the Spotify visit, helped them imagine tangible career pathways in tech and entrepreneurship.

Sathish said, “By participating in Apps for Good, schools can inspire the next generation of tech-savvy, socially-conscious leaders.”
