What is your product and who is it for?

Our product is a revolutionary travel app which can plan your journey, includes a points leaderboard which you can win for going green, and a mapping system which helps the environment, and helps you save money on fuel.

What inspired your idea, and why is it important to you?

With the cost of living rising at a rate never seen before, we felt it was important to help people save money at every point in their lives. Since fuel prices are on the rise, and the climate crisis being in the public eye more than ever, we felt the need to combine the issues into an app that can be used by all.

How does your product solve the problem?

Our app makes people's lives significantly easier, due to the cost of petrol prices being at a record high. It also helps individuals work on the climate crisis to help the world as a whole, from the comforts of their normal lives.

How does it work?

We plan to use the government DNV api to access the details of a user's car from their registration plate to evaluate the fuel efficiency and carbon emissions of their vehicles. We will then evaluate a score for them which they will be able to share once their journey is over. The mapping system will include data from bus routes and train timetables, along with taxi information, to provide the best balance between carbon efficiency and low costs.

What is the biggest challenge you faced when creating your app?

One of the biggest challenges faced whilst making our app was marketing and appealing to a select demographic. The idea of a travel app has potential to appeal to a massive range of ages, but this would make it a struggle to market and develop, as we would need to attune finer details of the app depending on the group of people we chose. We eventually came up with the idea of marketing to an age group of around 17-25, and this allowed us to progress into ideas such as the leaderboard system and the possibility of social media aspects of the app.

We see our app as a fun way to help out with our ever-expanding list of environmental problems, and take some weight off an individual’s shoulders, so they can say they’re doing their part to help.
