What is your product and who is it for?

Our app is aimed at anyone who is fed up with litter and wants to protect their environment by going on litter picks.

What inspired your idea, and why is it important to you?

Our aim is to tackle the problem of littering and the terrible impact that this has on wildlife and the oceans.

Izzy:

I’m an eco rep at school and we have started to do litter picks around the school. We all love litter picking so this really inspired me to think about making an app that could help people to get involved in litter picking too. I also watch David Attenborough with my mum and it’s all about people playing a small part to make a big difference. We want to do that.

Hanna:

I see signs up around the community to remind people not to drop litter. I wanted to create an app that helps people to clean up their communities more.

Eloise:

I wanted to make an app that helped people to help nature and wildlife. I think litter picking is also really relaxing and it’s a nice activity to do with friends.

How does your product solve the problem?

It’s so sad seeing litter ending up in the oceans or harming wildlife and it makes communities look horrible too. Our app helps people to plan litter picks and rewards them for doing them so they’ll do more and more.

How does it work?

If there is litter in your community, you go on a litter pick then weigh what you have collected and put this information into the app. You then get coins which you can spend playing fun games. Businesses can also go onto the app and report areas where there is lots of litter so when you log on, you can see these posts and do a litter pick there. The businesses may then choose to reward the picker with things like books for their school.
