What is your product and who is it for?

Our product allows you to decrease the amount of water you are using by finding more efficient ways of using water more sustainably. Our target audience is aimed at anyone that wants to be a part of saving our planet but mostly targeted at teenagers.

What inspired your idea, and why is it important to you?

When deciding what we as a group wanted our app to be about, we brainstormed many ideas. These included apps about dyslexia, autism, and more. But we as a group struggled to settle on one idea because these topics weren’t things that we had experienced first hand. When one of our group members, came up with the idea of the water crisis we were almost immediately in agreement. This was because throughout our lives each of us had experienced lack of water, whether that was because of an empty water bottle or plumbing issues. Though these experiences were not as severe as the ones that other people have or will face, it gave us a deeper understanding of our problem and app that was on a different level to just research. Water is something that everyone needs regardless of race, gender, religion or challenges they face. This app helped us to realise that. We didn’t just want to make our app. We needed to.

How does your product solve the problem?

This app can help people’s lives as they will have many different reasons for decreasing water usage for example; being more sustainable or wanting to lower bills. Also, this will help the planet as there will be less people wasting water, making our world a better place to live in. Whatever the reason, drop by drop will try and help.

How does it work?

Firstly, you would have to sign up or log in to your account. Then the app will take you to a survey, to help us calculate how much water you use on average. Afterwards, the app gives you links to websites and gives useful advice to help you. There will be challenges to complete which will also help you help level the amount of water you are using. By completing these challenges, you will level up on the leaderboard. There will be two leaderboards, one to compete locally, and one for global.

What is the biggest challenge you faced when creating your app?

One of the most important challenges that we faced when creating our app was data changes. Since data changes every year, updates would have to be more frequent in our app. We could potentially have difficulty in getting an exact number of user water usage.

Why vote for Drop by Drop?

Why should your product be the Judge's Favourite and why should people vote for you in the People’s Choice Award?

People should vote for our app as it faces a real life problem which can potentially be the end of the human race, if it is not solved. However, our team believes that we can save our oceans, but everyone needs to chip in. Everyone is their own water drop, and together we can make an ocean.
