What is your product and who is it for?

Our product is a software which helps to both keep people safe when outdoors and to educate them on animals, our app is aimed at people who go outside a lot already or who want to get out more.

What inspired your idea, and why is it important to you?

We are both outdoorsy people who live in outdoorsy areas and we want to give other people the opportunity to go outside more than they already would, by giving them peace of mind with our app. Also we are both incredibly passionate about animals and their conservation and welfare so we definitely wanted to add the element of education too. This is because we know that there are a lot of misconceptions about nature and wildlife that we want to end, plus lots of animals are in danger due to human interference so we want to help both people and animals to unite.

How does your product solve the problem?

Our app helps both the earth and people. This is because it gives people the peace of mind that danger at the hands of animals can be prevented or stopped all together, this is due to the educational aspect of the app. It tells you what to avoid doing when outside in order to stop you from getting hurt. Plus it gives you the means to treat animal bites or stings if they do happen. We want to help the earth too, that’s why we have added the education feature, so that people can learn how to respect nature and everything within it.

How does it work?

Our app uses a database of animals and their bites and stings. This refreshes every time you are connected to Wi-Fi or data. We use the What3Words software to get your location as accurate and it can be, so we can provide the utmost safety and security.

What is the biggest challenge you faced when creating your app?

The biggest challenge was time, we only had one 50 minute class once per week to develop our idea, plus we started development at a later time to everyone else in our class due to the fact we had another project that we were working on.

Why vote for Biting Bugs?

Why should your product be the Judge's Favourite and why should people vote for you in the People’s Choice Award?

People should vote for us because, our app would benefit so many people and help a whole new generation to appreciate nature in all its beauty. Plus it will help our planet because it will educate people on the damaging habits that so many people have developed such as killing ‘pests’, littering or not recycling.
