What is your product and who is it for?
Our product is for victims of domestic abuse of both genders, to enable them to record their abuse and safely send it to the Police and their contacts.
What inspired your idea, and why is it important to you?
We don’t want our generation to be living in a world which is unsafe and every little step that we take now will benefit us, and all future generations. This is why we have created a revolutionary app that will help make many lives better, safer and altogether happier.
How does your product solve the problem?
Did you know, that more than one in three women and more than one in four men, are experiencing domestic abuse each day. Our app will improve people’s lives by enabling them to safely and discreetly record the abuse they are suffering, then send this to the Police or their contacts so that the abuse can be stopped.
How does it work?
Our app features a recording device, which when clicked, turns the screen black, so that it looks like the screen is off, so the perpetrator won’t be suspicious that they are being recorded. This can then be sent to specified contacts, and / or the Police, which will reach them so they can intervene and help to stop the abuse. The user will be able to log into the private recordings page, to maximise security and safety. This includes all of their previous recordings, both private and non-private. Our app also includes a Links page, which includes a number of websites and links and phone numbers to support victims of domestic abuse. You can also find a page which enables users to search for a nearby police station, by entering their post-code. There is also an Articles page, where we have designed a number of articles including ‘Signs of abuse’, ‘How to help survivors’ and ‘What is domestic abuse’ which will help the victims identify what is abuse.
What is the biggest challenge you faced when creating your app?
The biggest challenge was how to design the app to maximise security for the user, to ensure that the perpetrator does not find out about the fact that the victim is recording the abuse when using the app.
