What is your product and who is it for?
Our product is a reputable news app for anybody who has an interest in the news. It takes the biggest headlines and replaces the false information with facts.
What inspired your idea, and why is it important to you?
We were inspired by the rise of AI and tabloid news stations spreading lies causing worry. It is important to us as one false article can cause a major chain reaction that affects everyone around us.
How does your product solve the problem?
Our app solves the problem of tabloid news articles causing major panic, creating a bias in large institutions and preventing the truth from prevailing. It promotes the UN sustainability goals Quality Education & Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions.
Spear News improves people’s lives as it promotes having true and unbiased sources of information that helps people see the truth.
How does it work?
We take the biggest headlines and we then run it through multiple checks and compare it to our list of reputable news stations, rewriting the articles so that they only include true and verified information.
On the app, there is a page filled with articles, an AI image detection page and a page on how to spot fake news. AI is somewhat used to fact check the articles and make sure that all information is true.
