Meet our Education Team and say hello to Ceri
Our friendly Education Team is usually the first point of contact for teachers getting in touch with Apps for Good. Whether you’re just getting started or already delivering Apps for Good in the classroom, our Education Team is here to help you feel confident and supported.
Our team brings together their experience in teaching, mentoring, and learning and development to help educators give young people the skills and confidence to use technology to make a positive difference.
Get to know the team below, and join us in welcoming our newest member, Ceri!
Earlier this year, Ceri joined Apps for Good as an Education Community Manager. She works closely with educators to help them deliver our courses successfully, while also supporting our community of Industry Volunteers, who bring their real-world experience into the classroom. We caught up with Ceri to find out more about her background, what she loves about her role and why helping young people build skills for the future matters to her.
What was your background before joining Apps for Good?
My most recent role for a number of years has been with a wonderful Bristol based charity Ablaze, where I managed a local career mentoring programme bringing school students and business volunteers together to deliver impactful career focused workshops and events. Before this I had a varied career, initially as a secondary school teacher, then in various business development and management roles in the education recruitment sector, before moving into learning and development with a focus on onboarding and coaching new starters and managers. I have always enjoyed nurturing and empowering young people and gain huge satisfaction in supporting their career journeys.
What’s the best part of your job?
I feel very passionately that we should be constantly learning and engaging with how our world is changing, and we need to empower our young people to do the same, enabling them to build their skills and confidence to be successful and impactful members of our communities. What I love about my role at Apps for Good is that I am supporting our wonderful school educators and volunteers to do this in the very fast moving world of ed tech. The best reward is hearing from our schools about the impact of our courses on their students, and having joined just as we are rolling out a new AI course, I am excited to be a part of this!
Jodie is our Senior Education Manager and has been a part of the Apps for Good team for over 5 years. She brings valuable experience in education support and building relationships with schools to the team. Before joining Apps for Good, she managed a learning centre at Explore Learning, a maths and English tuition provider, where she saw first-hand how technology could support learning for children of different ages and abilities.
As Senior Education Manager, Jodie helps lead our work supporting educators and growing our school community, and has spearheaded the development of our exciting new educator platform. Outside of her role at Apps for Good, Jodie also works as a psychotherapist, and loves how both jobs enable her to support people to reach their full potential and learn how to believe in themselves.
We’ll be saying a temporary goodbye to Kathy from this month as she heads off on maternity leave, and we’d like to wish her all the very best for this exciting next chapter!
Kathy is a valued member of our Education Team, bringing a wealth of experience from her time as a primary school teacher and her work at Voice 21, the UK's oracy education charity. As Education Community Manager, she supports our educators to get the most out of our courses, helps welcome new schools into our community, and oversees our fantastic group of Apps for Good Fellows.
Kathy says one of the highlights of her role is “watching our students’ innovative app ideas come to life through our annual Showcase opportunities. Every year, we are presented with new and unique app ideas that look to solve real-world problems close to our students’ hearts. Their passion and enthusiasm for helping others through creative and meaningful ways is always the highlight of my year. I really enjoy helping students feel acknowledged and celebrated for their achievements.”
