Donate it connects people who have unwanted household goods with charities who can sell items to raise money for their cause. The app was created by Georgia-Leigh & Sina from Connell Sixth Form College in Manchester. The app won the Sustainable Communities category, powered by Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, at the Apps for Good Awards 2016.
With over 300,000 tonnes of reusable furniture thrown away every year, and an increasing demand on charities, we wanted to provide a simple way to donate to charity, protect the environment and support those in need.
The app development process has allowed us to build a wide range of skills, from communication to team working, problem solving to perseverance.
Donate it helps people give their unwanted items to charity with the aim of contributing to a more sustainable environment & supporting charities.
Our favourite moment was meeting a range of inspirational entrepreneurs at the marketplace during the Apps for Good Awards. We also enjoyed presenting the idea to the panel of Dragons, who provided us with useful feedback.
