About the app

Watch the video

My World of Atoms is a fun adventure game that helps students master the periodic table. The app was created by Rebecca & Ben from The Boswells School, Chelmsford and won the Learning category powered by Samsung at the Apps for Good Awards 2015.

We talked to the team:

What was the inspiration behind your app?

We both enjoy science, but found learning the periodic table confusing and daunting. Our app is designed to let the user interact with the table and be introduced to it slowly in a fun way. This should help KS2 & 3 students to learn key information and the importance of the table in chemistry.

What did you enjoy most about developing your app?

We both thought that it was great to go through the development of an app as it gave us an insight of the process from concept to build. We have really enjoyed having team meetings to decide on different features and being involved in the important decisions throughout the development process.

How do you hope your app will help its users?

We hope that the KS2 and KS3 students will download our app to introduce them to the periodic table and learn fun facts about each element and how to make compounds. We want students to love science so they will be inspired to take it as a GCSE option.

What has been your favourite Apps for Good moment?

One of our best Apps for Good days would have to be when we visited games company UsTwo. It was fantastic to have a tour around their amazing offices and see what goes on behind the scenes of a top app company.
